Options

The options pits of the CME employ most of the standard hand signals used in futures trading. Most often, signals for puts and calls are added to regular signals in conveying market quotes, placing orders, and relaying fills.

In Summary

The use of hand signals has grown dramatically, fueled by arbitrage opportunities and the need for quick and efficient order placing and trade transmitting. Although the background behind the development of arbitrage is important to know, an understanding of hand signals is vital. These hand signals should become second nature, as the wrong signal could result in a substantial loss.
